6 o clock tonite while out walking dog on field out back of acklam crem sandy flatts field 2 woodcocks seen flying out of tall grass and landed further into field also heard fox calling and tawny owl hunting around avenue trees

Sleddale - several small groups of lapwing, golden plover, starling and fieldfare. A single sparrow hawk, meadow pippit and a pied wagtail. On return to Guisborough viewed from Highcliffe farm common buzzard x6 together over Guisborough woods.

Dormans Pool (11.00 am until 13.30 pm) - No Green-winged Teal sighted but 20 species observed from Jeff Young hide. Aided by a couple from Ilkley spotted three Bitterns. Two where together on the reed edge on the long drag side of Dormans and the other was due South opposite the hide. All three birds observed within minutes of each other.

Yes I have considered a Med Gull and though I have never seen one, since last Friday I have looked at dozens of photos on the Web. Without exception they all have a black mark close the eye and the top surface of the wing is slightly greyer than the rest of the plumage. Neither of these was the case with the bird I saw.
I know how rare this bird is with the last sighting in Cleveland being the first week in 1986 in Saltburn and the one before was shot at Redcar on 2 Nov. 1879 and before that was March 1837 which was shot at Seaton Carew (Birds of Cleveland M.A. Blick. Thanks for the idea but I don't think it fits.

Hartlepool Headland - 10.00am - Red-necked Grebe, Red-throated Dover, Guillemot, Common Scoter, Eider x8, Shag x2, Cormorant x8, Red-breasted Merganser, Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Purple Sandpiper, Knot. Med. Gull & 1st winter Glaucous Gull on rocks below Albion Terrace.

Marina - Black-throated Diver, Red-breasted Merganser x2.
